Doorway, Temple, Taiwan

Again, this is based on my severely jet-lagged, foggy memory, Taiwan/Nov2009.

IIRC, hubby explained to me there were three 'types' of temples in Taiwan -- level 1, level 2, level 3. Level 1 are the oldest, best maintained in their original form -type temples. Level 3 are the very recent ones.

This is an example of architecture from a Level 1 type of temple -- it has been around since the 1600s, outside Taichung (I think). It is called 'Long Shan Temple', but isn't the same Long Shan Temple I photographed earlier.

Very cool place -- still an operating temple (when we stopped by, there were proper monks & nuns chanting in ceremony in the rear courtyard.) Much of the original structure still stood (from what I could tell when we visited). Also, much of the woodwork is original!
